Benjamin DeHart showed an exceptional talent for art at a young age. By the age of 10 he was drawing and painting at an advanced level. He took private lessons in plein air painting, landscapes of the North and South West in acrylics, as well as charcoal and pastels, all during his high school years.  By 18 he was represented by two galleries in Palm Desert and sold several desert landscapes. In addition to fine art he went on to study marketing and graphic design in college. This well rounded background led to a versatile and varied style using several different mediums. At age 22 he began to branch out into abstract expressionism and surrealism. 

One of his abstract methods is layering multiple panels of varying sizes, textures, materials and subject matter into one piece of cohesive art. Often tying it all together with industrial elements like pipes and valves and finishing it with a custom frame. The finished piece is called a “Layered Mosaic”. 

Plein Air painting is one of his disciplines, something he practices while he travels. Doing these outdoor paintings of various points of interest around San Diego, Los Angeles and beyond is an ongoing adventure.
